Although I’m behind schedule on my halloween costume, I’m right on schedule with pumpkin decorating. A few weeks ago, while grocery shopping, my sister and I came across some adorable little pumpkins at Trader Joe’s. We bought a few pumpkins there and some more in different sizes in other stores. We placed them around the house to sort of decorate it a bit and bring in a little subtle halloween decor. At first this was fine, but then they began to feel too plain.
Over the weekend my sister and I spent some time decorating these pumpkins. Since we are horrible at the great art of carving, we decided to take a different approach with our pumpkin decorating. This year my sister decided that we should make the pumpkins pretty and dare I say it, chic. Truth be told, she had me at pretty and I couldn’t wait to get started. I quickly googled “chic pumpkins” and a number of great images popped up. We were very inspired and waisted no time getting started.
We headed to Michaels and JoAnn’s for our supplies. We wanted glitter, ribbon, rhinestones and even some lace or tulle. We wanted the pumpkins to have a fashionable and luxurious look to them.
We tried all sorts of decorating techniques. For instance we used glitter glue and placed it along the ridges of the pumpkin.
We used different types of rhinestone decals in halloween themes and chic decorative designs on slightly larger pumpkins.
We also used glitter ribbon with adhesive backing to decorate some of the pumpkins. We adhered the ribbon following the natural curve of the pumpkin making it look almost like a present.
We used rhinestones to make decorative swirls and added some bling to our pumpkin.
We also used lace and tool to cover some of the pumpkins. We started by cutting a small hole for the stem to fit through.
Next we gathered the material from the bottom and tied it with a rubber band.
All together, they create a fabulous and chic pumpkin display. Now, who said halloween can’t be pretty? I have to admit, I’m so glad we went this route. The pumpkins look fantastic and we’ve received so many complements from neighbors and friends. My sister and I have so much fun with projects like this. Not only do we get to be incredibly creative, but we also get to spend a little more time together. Hope you have a great halloween!
